Be courageous, not the cowardly lion

How To Have Courage When The World Is Falling Apart

How Can We Implement Courage in Uncertain Times?

After realizing the delicate balance of our current world situation, as foretold not just in ancient prophetic texts, and via stories passed down from Indigenous shamans and seers in the past but also in my lifetime; with films like Idiocracy and The Terminator, it’s clear we are living in extraordinary times that demand awareness, courage, and some form of focused action.

During meditation, I asked my wiser, higher self for some advice on what might help me get through this difficult time of uncertainty, and because I know this question is also in the minds and hearts of many, I wanted to share what came through.

As I continued to ponder what might help not only myself but the collective, to get through the immense challenges we are facing, I looked down at a crossword puzzle sitting on my desk, and the word ‘harness’ jumped out. My next question was ‘harness what?’  I then heard the word: ‘positivity.’ This sounded cliche and almost too simple, but I can see how harnessing positivity and walking in courage may be the two most important traits to have, and perhaps, even our saving grace moving forward in the next few years.

We were forewarned that in the time of the Great Tribulation, we would witness an unsustainable world unravel, there would be signs of the times; such as earthquakes, extreme weather events, pestilence (diseases), and one war after another, and we are currently witnessing genocide in multiple countries. And dare I say, in the USA, it feels as if we are living within a full-on silent war that is busy attacking our freedoms and restricting basic human rights such as the right to affordable housing- in the guise of (normalizing) vulture capitalism. Except unlike vultures that wait for their prey to die before they feed, we are being eaten alive by what Author Penny Kelly coined as “men in suits” in her book ‘Robes,‘ with their unquenchable thirst for more power and control over humanity.

Another part of the biblical prophesy that may still come true is the ‘great famine’—with the news of the recent bee colony collapse occurring in record numbers, this part of the prophesy has the potential to cause great suffering or at the very least, make certain foods unaffordable for the majority of the middle-and working-class poor, whose wages haven’t gone up in over 36 years due to an unfair system where only a privileged few are allowed to make billions, while everyone else gets breadcrumbs.

We are also living in a world where they (those who benefit from selling our data) want us to believe it is normal to allow big tech (the privileged few) to spy on our conversations via our smart devices and force us to be inundated with constant ads, as if we are nothing more than a mindless consumer. At the same time, we get little or no customer service from these big tech companies because now that they are giants, there is no competition. Good luck finding a phone number to call when you need to speak to a customer service agent regarding an issue with your account; humans have been replaced by AI chatbots. However, when it comes to selling you ad space, a real person will reach out and call you directly.

In uncertain times, believing in hope, having courage and remaining positive amid chaos is not naïve; it’s revolutionary. This determined mindset will help us stay rooted in our power, remain in alignment with our soul, and keep us anchored during the storm. It’s not about blind optimism but about recognizing that you still have the power to respond with grace, creativity, and strength, even when the world feels upside down (inverted), and insane.

“You were born for this time. You don’t need to know exactly how everything unfolds. You just need to take one courageous breath at a time and act from that place.”

Choosing Courage Over Fear:

Courage is often considered a heroic trait reserved for movie characters or legends. However, real courage lies in the everyday choices we make, no matter how small. It’s about showing up for ourselves, even when filled with anxiety or fear.

The Stoic philosopher and Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius once said, “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” In other words, what challenges us shows us the way forward, and this also refines our strategy. Harnessing positivity doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine. It means choosing to hold onto light amid the darkness, even if it’s just a flicker. Positivity, in this way, becomes a discipline of perception.

Another powerful way to move through challenges is by staying grounded in awareness and choosing to focus on what is still beautiful and sacred, this simple act becomes a quiet form of defiance. It says: I see the fear, but I choose hope. I see the collapse, but I am choosing to build. Viktor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor and psychiatrist, once wrote, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves,”  and based on my observation of humanity, conscious, internal change is perhaps the hardest form of change.

If you are still with me here, let’s look at some practical ideas on how to maintain courage as a discipline.

Courage On A Daily Basis

Fear often causes us to make decisions from a place of limitation, shrinking our potential and narrowing our choices. It leads us to react impulsively, clinging to what feels safe instead of what we truly want. It takes courage to face that fear head-on and to expand in making the decisions that align with our true desires.

Five Practical Steps to weave courage into your daily life:

  1. Acknowledge Your Fears: The world feels chaotic. Old systems are crumbling, and we can be certain that there will be uncertainty.  But this is also where the soul shines. This is where we discover our resilience and what we are made of. Recognizing your fears is essential. Consider writing down your fears in a journal; this process can provide clarity.
  2. Let go of past failures: We need to let go of past failures because they were made with the understanding and awareness we had at the time. Holding onto them only keeps us trapped in fear and self-doubt. Choosing courage means recognizing that we’ve grown, we know more now, we’ve lived more, and we’re not the same person who made those choices. By releasing the weight of the past, we free ourselves to move forward with wisdom, confidence, and a heart open to new possibilities.
  3. Set Small Goals:  Courage doesn’t always arrive with fanfare or flashing lights either. Sometimes, it’s found in the smallest personal choices, like simply allowing yourself to feel, to face your fear, to meet your grief with open eyes, and to keep moving forward with your heart intact. It may also look like setting boundaries with those you once would’ve bent over backward for, or choosing to stay present instead of numbing out.
  4. Surround Yourself with Supportive Individuals: Being a part of a supportive community may be essential for maintaining sanity during challenging times. Spend time with people who are lit from within and avoid the noise of the panicked crowd. You might want to join a community focused group interested in personal growth that can be inspiring and motivating. I recently found a group called Weave, they have both Local and Topic Groups, allowing Weavers to connect with one another based on shared location or a topic of interest.
  5. Practice Mindfulness: To implement courage, we can start with presence by connecting to the earth and our breath. Mindfulness means we are fully in the present moment, not in the past or future. Our awareness in this moment within the stream of time is the most important, and as the silent observer, we release judgments of our emotions and even our thoughts.
  6. Keep your sense of humor,  even if it’s dark, and especially when it’s dark! Throughout history, when the world was bleak, certain entertainers brought much-needed laughter and relief. Consider Charlie Chaplin during the Great Depression, whose films like The Great Dictator blended humor with poignant social commentary, offering both escape and a powerful critique of the times. Today we have late-night hosts and satirical shows like Saturday Night Live, to help us lighten up. Laughter reminds us of our humanity, offering a momentary reprieve in the midst of hardship. It doesn’t erase the weight of struggle but reconnects us to the lighter side of life.

And when you feel like giving up, think about this; somewhere in a parallel reality, lives a version of yourself who has already made it through this, who’s proud of you for not quitting. I understand that this might not make you feel any better in the moment but it is definitely something to ponder in times of turmoil. We need to keep in mind that we are in control and can choose to focus on the version of our reality that aligns with courage, hope, and resilience. And just as there are various versions of experiencing the world, there are more ways than one to respond to hardship. By shifting our perspective, perhaps we can step into a reality where positivity and strength lead the way, opening doors that were once closed, and moving us forward despite the obstacles in our path. These times are not easy, and you’re not here by accident. You’re here to help reimagine a new world, one courageous breath at a time.
